Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Services
What exactly is a fertility support advocate / doula?
A fertility support advocate and doula provides emotional, informational, and advocacy support throughout your fertility journey—from initial exploration through treatment, loss, or pregnancy. Unlike a birth doula who supports labor and delivery, a fertility doula walks alongside you through the unique challenges of conceiving, including learning your body, navigating medical appointments, understanding treatment options, managing insurance, and processing the emotional complexities of this journey. Think of us as your guide, advocate, and best friend through the process that just gets it.
How is Rooted In Fertility different from therapy or medical care?
We complement, your existing care team. While therapists focus on mental health treatment and doctors manage medical care, we bridge the gap by providing practical navigation support, medical advocacy coaching, and compassionate companionship specific to fertility. We help you understand your options, prepare questions for your doctor, advocate for yourself, and feel less alone through the day-to-day realities.
Do I need to be actively pursuing fertility treatment to work with you?
At Rooted Infertility, we believe in full autonomy over your fertility. Our work begins by helping you reconnect with your body, understanding how it works and what it needs. Together, we create clear, informed action steps to reach your goals, whether that means growing your family, preserving your fertility, giving the gift of life to another. Rooted Infertility is here as your advocate, your guide, and your unwavering support.
What does a typical session look like?
Root In Sessions are personalized to your needs. We might spend time reviewing your medical records, detoxifying your space, preparing questions for an upcoming appointment, processing difficult news, discussing next steps, or simply creating space for you to share what you're feeling. Some clients need strategic planning support; others need emotional processing. We adjust to what serves you best in each moment.
Practical Questions
How do we get started?
We begin with a free consultation where you can share your story, ask questions, and explore whether we're the right fit. This conversation is pressure-free and designed to help you feel heard and grounded. If we decide to move forward together, we'll create a personalized support plan tailored to your unique journey and needs.
How often will we meet?
The frequency is entirely up to you and your needs. Some clients prefer weekly sessions during active treatment, while others check in monthly or schedule sessions as needed around key appointments or decision points. We create a rhythm that works for your life and budget.
Can you attend medical appointments with me?
Yes! Many clients find it helpful to have us present at important appointments, either in person or virtually, to help ask questions, take notes, and ensure you feel supported and heard. We can also help you prepare for appointments beforehand and debrief afterward.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, we operate as a private-pay service. We also recognize that fertility treatment is already financially demanding, so we're committed to exploring ways to make our support accessible.
What if I'm working with a fertility clinic outside of New York City?
No problem! While we're based in NYC, we provide virtual support to clients across the United States and throughout the globe. Fertility tourism is a real thing. Geography doesn't limit our ability to advocate, guide, and support you.
Who We Serve
Do you support LGBTQ+ families?
Absolutely. Rooted In Fertility is deeply committed to inclusive, affirming support for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. We understand that your path to parenthood may involve unique considerations around donor selection, reciprocal IVF, surrogacy, or second-parent adoption, and we're here to support and celebrate along side you.

Do you work with BIPOC communities?
Yes. We recognize that BIPOC communities face systemic barriers and disparities in reproductive healthcare. Our commitment to equity means centering your experiences, advocating against bias in medical settings, and ensuring culturally responsive support. We're honored to walk alongside diverse communities on this journey.
Do you support people experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss?
Yes. Loss is part of many fertility journeys, and we hold space for the grief, confusion, uncertainty and next steps that comes with it. Whether you're processing a recent loss, navigating testing, or deciding whether to try again, we provide support without minimizing your pain or rushing your healing.
What if I'm considering paths beyond fertility treatment?
We support all paths to family, including adoption, fostering, living child-free, or taking a break from treatment. Our goal isn't to push any particular outcome—it's to help you honor what feels right for you and your vision of family.
